Let’s Talk Blow-Drys

There’s something about a professional blow-dry that feels like magic. You leave the salon swishing your hair around like you’re in a shampoo ad… then try to recreate it at home and suddenly it’s an arm workout and a battle with the brush.

We get it. Blow-drying can feel intimidating. But with the right tools and a bit of technique, you absolutely can get that “just stepped out of the salon” finish at home. Here’s a quick breakdown of the styles we’re asked for most and how to approach them.

The Straight & Sleek One
Glossy, smooth, polished, but not flat. Perfect if you struggle with frizz or humidity. In salon we prep with Kevin Murphy Smooth.Again and seal everything in with  Color Wow Dream Coat (humidity doesn’t stand a chance).
At home: keep your airflow pointing down the hair shaft, not across it, and always finish with a cool shot to lock in shine.

The Big, Bouncy One
Think volume, lift and that soft 90s supermodel energy. We love lightweight lift from Kevin Murphy Body.Builder and extra root support with Color Wow Raise the Root.
The real secret? Letting the hair cool in shape. Whether that’s rollers in the salon or holding the section wrapped around your brush at home, cooling equals lift.

The Polished With Flicks One
Soft bends and curved ends that make a cut look intentional. The magic happens in the last few inches. Slow down at the ends and let them cool fully before releasing. A medium round brush usually gives the perfect balance of curve without over-curling.

Which brings us to the question we get daily, which Belle Blowdry Brush should you use?

The Belle Blowdry Brush is designed to grip without pulling, and size really does matter:
Small for fringes and shorter layers.
Medium for shoulder-length and soft curves.
Large for mid-to-long blowouts.
XL for very long hair, extensions, and maximum smoothness.

A quick pro tip before you start: rough-dry to about 70% first. Always use heat protection. Work in sections. And never let the nozzle sit directly against the brush (your bristles will thank you).

Blow-drying is a skill and like any skill, it gets easier with practice. If you’re ever unsure what to ask for, bring a photo or tell us how you want to feel: sleek, bouncy, swishy. We’ll translate.

And if you’re practising at home? Be patient. We weren’t experts on day one either.
