Factors that affect the timing of your hair extension appointment.

In this day and age, we are so busy that we need to have an idea of how long our appointments will take, especially if you have kids to collect or buses to catch. This guide has been created to help you have an idea of what to expect when you come into us.

COLOUR AND EXTENSIONS – CAN IT BE DONE IN THE ONE DAY?

The answer to this is absolutely! BUT you will be in for a minimum 5-6 hours depending on the services which you require. We will keep you stocked up with drinks and snacks but be prepared to be here for the long haul!

Why does it take so long? Colour, especially highlights, or a balayage will take approx. 3 hours to complete. You must factor in applying the colour, the developing time and then the toning at the basin and finishing off with a blow-dry. If you are an all over colour or roots, you can expect to be here for around 2 hours, and for just a stand alone toner treatment, about 1 hour.

If you are going in with extensions, this will add another 1-2.5 hours onto your appointment. The extensions appointment involves colour matching, applying the extensions, cutting the extensions to your desired length, styling them and going through the after-care. A volume booster, which is two packs, will take around 1.5 hours to apply where as a full head of extensions could take up to 2.5 hours to apply as this is 5 packs of hair.

Another service you will have to factor in time wise, is if you already have extensions applied that need to be removed. Removals will take around 30-45 minutes depending on the amount you have in and also the build up at your scalp. Unfortunately, sometimes it is required to wash your hair after removals to begin another service. This usually happens when you have limescale in your water which leads to build up which leaves a sticky residue on the hair or a green tinge which will need to be cleansed out.

While we try our best to have the appointments leading straight into each other there is a number of factors which can effect the timing.

As a colour and extension service will take this amount of time, it is a large slot to find available in our diary so book early to avoid disappointment! Sometimes it is not possible to find a slot that will suit your diary, so this can be spread over two different days, with the colour first and the extensions afterwards.

HOW LONG DOES A REAPPLICATION TAKE?

For a reapplication appointment, this involves the removals (which could take 30-45 minutes) and then the application of the extensions afterwards. See above for related timings for removals.

For those who have left their extensions in over the recommended 3 month period, this can be damaging to your hair as the bead should not be left on the same piece for that period of time. This also will of course affect the time in your appointment. Your extensions may become matted as they have grown down and have not been kept separate and your build up will be tighter and harder to remove than if you return in the recommended time frame. If this occurs, removals will be charged for and sometimes it is not possible to reapply your extensions the same day, as this removal will cut into your appointment in our diary. If this happens the best thing for you to do is to book in for two separate appointments, one for removals and one for application of the extensions.
